Hello everyone,
You should all have gotten an email with a bit more concrete information about prices and limits. We are starting to charge for bandwidth at over 100 Gigabytes transferred. That lets over 95% of all Gandi hosting customers pay nothing for bandwidth.
Since there are so many questions, we started a FAQ:

Also, please, clarify, what did you mean by "usage above 95% of all users"? Some very big absoulte value (tens and hundreds of TBs) or relative value (95% of bandwidth utilisation, unrelated to absolute usage in TBs)?

In my case, if I pay for bandwidth of 10Mbit/s, what my limits would be?
Would I be somehow warned some time before the limit? What would be the options for me in such case (only pay for overlimit, or disable network entirely, or, may be, dropping connection speed, but without payment)?

Regarding comment #11 in response to comment #10.

My calculations were based on your table above which shows only a 256MB notch on the RAM slider with the next one being 1024MB. You also show the same in you configuration examples (small=256MB, medium= 1024MB etc).

There isn't much room on the slider for the 64MG increments you mention but its good to have confirmation of this. You should really have mentioned it in your original announcement.

You have also shown the configuration price examples based on rates for a purchase of 2 million units.

Also, why anyone would expect clients to be able to compare your example of 22 days consumption shown above versus the current montlhy rates, is beyond me.

What about abilty to just block all overlimited traffic instead of paying for it?
I like Gandi also for it's really unmetered bandwith. So I want to have an ability to rather lower my limit, but be sure it will never be reached.

Anonymous: concrete figures will come in about a week. You will receive a mail with the price list, your consumption in credit, your converted number of credit, bandwidth prices....we are now on a monthly per account model and we have pushed the limit to preserve 95% of our customers.

Dm: price with 150,000 credits will be cheaper than the current monthly price. Same with 2M and the yearly price. Minimum RAM will be 256Mb and increments by 64Mb

Even if the 512MB of RAM remains an option(which is not clear from the example) this still represents a price increase of 10% based on €12.75 vs €12 (existing). If the levels are as illustrated and we have only a choice of 256MB RAM with next the next level being 1024MB, then this will force most users of 512MB to upgrade to 1024MB and force them to pay €23 per month vs a comparable €21.43 per montth the moment(for a comparable server). Only if people pay for the maximum units will they receive the current prices, so this is moving away from the monthly payment model completely. Insted of presenting it as a benefit for customers, I would have expected more from Gandi, why not explain your business reasons and say that you want people to pay more in advance, which reduces your payment transaction fees and admin costs also.

"90% of customers" is not a very concrete figure. Could you give an idea of about how much bandwidth allotment customers will have without incurring additional charges, and over what period of time? And will you have some way to arrange throttling rather than additional charges? I'm still concerned about cost predictability here.

Anonymous: screenshots are made from our development platform, don't look at details on it. In Euro, current price for a share per month is 12.00 per month, 10.00 per year. In the new system, price of the equivalent will be 11.995 with a 150 000 credits pack, 9.88 with a 2M pack.

Could you elaborate on the pricing of bandwidth? I'm very concerned about Gandi moving away from an unmetered pipe; predictable bandwidth costs are one of the things I find most appealing about Gandi.

This change looks quite reasonable to me; I look forward to no longer dealing with the pre-allocated "resource" indirection, and just directly configuring a server and paying for what it uses.

I do have a few questions, though:

- How much will 1 credit cost in USD? Do you plan to base it on a dynamic conversion rate to Euro, or do you plan to set a fixed price in USD as you do now with shares?

- I found Gandi's unmetered bandwidth one of the nicest features you have; it means I don't have to worry about how much bandwidth I use, and my costs are predictable. Do you plan to offer some way to control costs? Could you please give some idea of what the new cost structure looks like? Do the 1-100Mbps limits affect cost, or just help control usage? What's the current threshold of bandwidth that 90% of your customers use less than? Do you plan to charge for incoming bandwidth, or only outgoing bandwidth?

- If I have an existing discount on file with Gandi (unrelated to purchase volume) that cuts the cost of my resource purchases, will that discount carry over to my purchases of credits?

- With the new system, how much will the equivalent of a 1-share server cost? Your "small" and "medium" examples don't correspond directly to the previous share resource limits.

I've had great success to a point. I've had two occasions where the interface returns a 500 error and blows up the process I was trying to accomplish. Once I was trying to delete a server from the Paris DC, the other was trying to pay for a domain transfer. The first one I resolved by dismounting the system disk before deleting, the second required me to revert to the old interface in order to get my order processed.

PLEASE keep the old interface around for a while longer, as without it my primary domain would have gone into the "delete pending" bin and I would have been out a lot more (my fault for waiting, but still).

I totally agree with Alice and Guilherme, the font is really ugly.
I tested it with Chrome and IE 9 on Windows 7, same story.

Regarding the theme, again I agree with Alice; too dark and the black tabs are really terrible...
Are you selling coffins ?

For the the theme I can understand it is a question of taste, but for the unreadable font PLEASE do something !

Looks great, works the same (given a few minor quirks), has customisation options - what's not to like? Suggestion: as there is no accounting for taste, would you consider having a few distinct styling themes, or even configurable style eg fonts, colours, sizes, ...? I know I don't need all that, but some seem intent on complaining

The new design is nice but there is a problem V4 when deleting an email forwarding for a domain (it works in V3 without problems):

"Error:

The only issues we saw with Basekit initially were a problem with the undo not working, and some confusion over the French versions of the templates we offer for English-speaking customers (hint: you can edit them and change the French text). Perhaps you hit the undo bug, but that's fixed now. There are a lot of great sites going up every day!

It appears that the "normal" edit mode on the new interface can no longer be used to edit TTL values for records. Since editing the TTL prior to repointing is common practice, this is puzzling.

I was able to edit TTL by using expert edit mode.

Was this omission intentional?
