I think you guys are doing great. I learned about Gandi through word of mouth by a close friend of mine, and that's how I've sent my own clients to Gandi. Twitter, Facebook, etc, that's just part of the normal flow of the internet. Sure there's lots of noise in those information stacks, but that's just how it is. The value of word of mouth recommendations may be easily dismissed as part of daily life but it's so much more important these days -- and very subtle.

Ultimately it comes down to good service, good prices, good technology and good ethics (hint: good people work at Gandi!). In my opinion, those four things are why I'm a client, and why I'll continue to praise Gandi's efforts. VPS services are rockin', DNSSEC is fantastic, the whole Gandi control panel interface is great, and every quarter you guys are able to do better than last. Gandi defines what a registrar should be: a place where you *want* your domains to be.

I think twitter is social networking. It's a form of communication. We don't advertise, but we do communicate with our customers. We sponsor events, give away goodies, and we help out socially relevant projects and organizations, too. Maybe Twitter is not the best medium to communicate with, but we do see that people who need services we offer, like DNSSEC, for instance, can learn about it on Twitter and interact with us, and that's useful.
Is the t-shirt an ad? Well, maybe you can say it is, in a sense. It's an ad that says that the person who wears it likes what we do. That's voluntary. That's communication. And that's not BS.

"No advertising"!
Starbucks said the same things, until they needed to advertise and at the same time unload tons of bs to explain that, hmmmm, true, not exactly, you understand, ..... Experience generally proves that unnecessary statements are ... unnecessary at best, harmful most often.
Now, you should explain why you are jumping in the twitter bandwagon. Facebook will be the inevitable next, I assume. And (while wearing your noBS t-shirt) I almost hear you explaining that "hmmmm, true, not exactly, you understand, but ..... twitter is not advertising!" Ha.
In conclusion: I like better what you do than what you say.
That's why I am one of your clients for 10+ years (currently, 54 domain names).
Good luck!
