DDOS attacks

We, like others registrars in the world such as (Tucows , Joker or UltraDNS), have been the victim of a vast targeted attack of our servers.
We have been under attack since this morning by well motivated people who, and this is a first to my knowledge, launched several large scale distributed attacks against our servers. The Gandi network was in line with the state of the website: sufficient for "semi-automatic piloting", but not for this kind of thing. We had redundancy, but the scale was such that all of our machines fell one after eachother.
We have been working for the last months, growing our team from 6 to 23 people including 4 dedicated to the network, to transform our company to the way it should be, and the building site is phenomenal. The network was not overlooked in this transformation, and we are in the process of setting up a new one to protect us - as much as one can be - from attacks of this scale.
I make the point nevertheless of thanking the perpetrators of these attacks, as it motivates us only more to show them how much we are determined to continue our adventure to build a different kind of company. We are currently at our data centres, to put everything in place and secure the situation. Whatever it takes.
We offer our apologies to our customers, and will make sure that it does not happen again. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Thanks folks for the information, I was very nervous during the day because I have no idea what was happening.
It seems that there is an increment of scum on the internet that make fun destroying peoples businesses
Thanks for the update. Was a bit upset for some time until the reason became evident. Great work you guys!
Thanks for the information. Congratulations for getting back online quickly and letting us know what was happening.
If all the effort made by the people behind the DDoS attacks was focused in another direction like, let's say, genetics, nanotechnologies, fast food improvements, even composing a better Eurovision song for their countries, this would be a better world.
And you could rest during the weekend.
thanks for the update!
on a different subject, will gandi become a registrar for .mobi?
We are focusing on some other things currently, but if .mobi is requested by end users, and not only but the ones behind the extension (nokia, microsoft...) then why not ?
So I hate to be so selfish, but is this why I still haven't gotten more than an automated acknowledgement after three days of repeated support requests?
Good luck and if someone could take a look at Ref280774, Ref281024, and Ref281343 it would be much appreciated.
Sometimes a plumber is more appreciated than a poet.
Y'egads, but I'm sure you are swamped right now. : )
