Gandi V2: Better!
By Ryan on Friday 2 June 2006, 14:11 - Permalink
As you know, a small number of our website’s visitors have been experiencing difficulties concerning its speed, and may even have been getting timeout errors.
We have just uploaded a corrective patch for this, which has largely helped the situation, but your help would be very useful.
So that we might be able to return the situation to normal for absolutely everyone, we would greatly appreciate it if you would please specify your Internet configuration.
The issue at hand does not relate to the number of servers that we are using (the platform is set up for far more connections that we currently have), so we are focusing on the actual network and within the software itself. A post devoted entirely to this topic will cover your concerns and will explain our improvements in greater detail.
Please reply in the following format (for greater clarity):
- Speed problem encountered (site unavailable, sluggish, broken links, timeouts after X operations, etc.)
- Internet service provider (if only one is involved, that would explain things…),
- Type of connection (dial-up, DSL, etc.),
- Web browser and its version,
- Operating system.
THANK YOU for your help and patience, and please remember that each urgent request will be treated here: gandiv2@support.gandi.net

I cannot forward my domains. It's just not working.
This is not ok. Come on guys. I submitted a support ticket; no response.
I do not feel supported!
Hey folks, the new interface is gorgeous, but the functionality is BROKEN. I can create only a single email redirect for a domain name, and even that one doesn't work: returns 554 Relay access denied. URL redirections on new domains are not working either.
These are big problems.
Weekend or not, you should post an update here on what you're doing to resolve these problems. Bring in the troops from the beach if necessary, but please get this fixed soonest!
Your new website look very "pretty" but it's functionality is GONE!
I can't FIND anything, I can't USE anything, your forms DON'T work...
I didn't want a "bigger" and "better" gandi. Gandi was perfect the way it was. It had EVERYthing I needed, it was simple to use, it didn't have all of the useless CRAP that the other registrars had. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, it wasn't one of those "Domain Mills" that encouraged you to recklessly register 100's of domains at a time.
I can see that THAT has all changed. You're as bad as the rest, now!
Not sure why, but this isn't good when we can't login and correct this, just got a domain the dns is correct, it even shows up in the whois ok but try to surf to it you get the following: http://redir-error.gandi.net/
Come on folks, let's get the ball a rolling now...
The V1 was very very very BETTER that V2
All : we have released last past days patches that should answer most of your concerns. Please take some time to check and confirm it.
Once again, the change was an absolute necessity and not being able to keep anything from the past was an issue. The V1 code was not documented, very different from one piece to the other, and sometimes just not correct.
I generally agree on the "if it works don't fix it" thing, but here it was more something like "something that doesn't evolve dies".
And just to let you know : the feedback received by email is 99% very positive now, proving things are better as we speak.
I'm a new consumer and I can't register, transfer or create an account on your site...
I prefered version 1 too... IMHO, version 2 isn't working at all...
I guess that 99% of the positive feedback is because of the new design, but here we are not talking only about design. I'm a designer and I must say my first impression from your new website was also very positive. I was impressed actually. But unfortunately I also had to use it... and this is where the problems started.
I tried to register a domain and almost nothing was working. I couldn't creat a new handle (this problem was solved when I tried to use IE instead of Firefox), the automatic emails I received were only in France, my support tickets were not answered, I find no way to delete a handle and I guess the problems will go on today. I really don't know how I will explain all these to my client who are waiting for his domain to be registered, but I hope that my beloved Gandi will find a way to explain all these to me.
Anyway, I understand and appreciate Gandi's efforts, but I have a feeling they should work harder for supporting their clients. After six years I'm with them I think I worth a direct answer on my emails.
I have sent NUMEROUS tickets and follow-up emails to Gandi customer support because DNS nameserver changes are not propogating. This all happened when you switched to v2 of Gandi. It would be nice for someone to respond to my tickets or better yet let me guess, with v2.0 emails DO NOT get forwarded to Customer Support?!?!
The 99% positive response was for the design and NOT the functionality/operability. Get your heads out of the clouds and fix the damn problems because its effecting my business!
Positive feedbacks were on the design, and now usability and features. We fixed a lot of the issues, excluding transfers that are on their way now.
Haris and Lethal, please send an email to gandiV2@gandi(dot)net, and we'll check why you are still facing issues 99% of our customers don't have anymore.
Christie - you're right bang on the nail. GANDI was the best, because it was simple, and functional. No bells and whistles to wow the audience. No unnecessary frills. Just a simple linear, workable interface. Yes, it looked dated - old even - but by golly it worked. Who needs a "Hang out bar"? Who needs a blog, at a a domain registrar for chissakes. Just register and administer domains and get on with the job. Quicklinks in e-mail aren;t working. Invoice figures are incorrectly formatted. Bank clearnace only allows you once try on the card then tells you retries exhausted. And now, I find that domains I registered under my admin ID (GR132) can't be deleted. Somehow or other they're owned by another contact ID (GR880) which is also me it seems, but about which I know nothing, and I'm told they can only be deleted by the admin ID (which I logged in as) or the owner (which I can't log in as). Flaming hell, guys, is there anything you *haven't* broken in this over-blown re-styling effort?
Ever heard of the KISS principle - keep it simple stoopid. Or the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?
This isn't progress. This is regression.
How ironic you should choose to characterise the page as held together with low-grade sticky tape.
Unisol : I respect your position - even if I totally disagree with all of it - but I'm not sure you are being concrete on what your issue is ? Have even tried to contact our support to ask if we can find a solution ? => gandiV2@gandi(dot)net.
"What doesn't evolve dies"
We kept the simplicity, same processes, avoided marketing and commercial website, but enabled progress. And lots of our customers are recognizing it - hundred of emails received in that direction, posts on the bar you "don't need".
I'm sure we'll be able to convince you very soon were right to choose us.
Very good job guys both UI and functionality.
From what I gather no one above explained clearly what their problem was..... maybe their only problem is that they're so stupid that they can't use the new UI ! People, if you want to rant, at least be constructive instead of saying "This is crap it doesn't work."
Everything works absolutely fine for me.
Comment contacter Gandi à propos de disfocntionnements ? Il n'y a aucune réponse aux nombreux emails envoyés. C'est assez grave. Existe t-il un téléphone ? Merci.
Anyone know how to reach someone at Gandi ? A phone number ? No email is ever answered. Cheers. Pop

After more than 2 weeks nothing had been done… And this is only a very basic service : process transferts & provide a proper invoice.
How come, you can't manage to do that since Thursday 8 June 2006 as you said ?
