Opening of .fr domains to individuals

June 20th 2006, AFNIC (the registry in charge of the .FR TLD will open registration of .FR domain names to individuals 18 and over who reside in France.
No proof of identity will be required, you must simply provide your date of birth, the city in which you live, and the French département in which you were born (indicate 99 if you were born in another country).
This opening will occur in several phases:
- from June 16th at 5:00 PM to June 20 at 9:00 AM (Paris time), orders will not be sent to AFNIC (no purchases, transfers, DNS changes, etc.). Gandi will transmit all your changes to AFNIC upon its reopening on Tuesday morning,
- June 20th, at 9:00 AM (Paris time), domains beginning with a number or the letters A and B will be sent to AFNIC, all other orders will be rolled out over the following days,
- June 21st, at 9:00 AM (Paris time), domains beginning with a number or the letters A through F will be sent to AFNIC, all other orders will be rolled out over the following days,
- June 22nd, at 9:00 AM (Paris time), domains beginning with a number or the letters A through N will be sent to AFNIC, all other orders will be rolled out over the following days,
- finally, on June 23rd at 9:00 AM (Paris time), the totality of domains will be sent to AFNIC.
In order to maximize your chances for success, please remember that in order to be valid, the order must be sent with the following information:
- owner's date of birth
- city where the owner was born
- number of the French département where the owner was born (99 for those born outside France)
