Gandi Mail Launch!
By Ryan on Wednesday 3 October 2007, 17:43 - Gandi - Permalink
Following a beta test phase, we are very proud to announce the official release of Gandi Mail. More than 6,000 persons have assisted us in the testing of this new product.
Several improvements accompany this launch :
If you have other ideas/requests concerning the Gandi Mail service, please remember that we are listening to you
Several improvements accompany this launch :
- Included in the purchase of your domain name, you now have 5 email addresses with 1GB of disk space divided as you wish amongst your different accounts.
- You can also now subscribe to Gandi Mail Pack which allows you to create up to 1,000 email accounts in connection with your domain. Pack rates start at €1 (VAT excluded). Payment is based upon the amount of disk space desired. No minimum engagement is required - you can cancel at any time, and be refunded for the time not used!
- new functions that will be available with the pack:
- the auto reply function: you have the possibility of having an automatic reply when you are gone
- the 'like' alias: a system that is unique to Gandi. This allows you to create dynamic aliases for your e-mail mailbox (for example, an alias 'begin with jo' will allow you to receive e-mails at jo@domain, jojo@domain, jonathan@domain, johnny.boy@domain, etc.)
- The installation of a sieve on the platform will allow us, in the coming weeks, to add the following functions:
- the possibility of changing one's password by webmail
- the possibility of managing the level of antispam of your e-mail
- the possibility of managing a blacklist/whitelist of e-mail addresses
- the possibility of managing a blacklist/whitelist of words in e-mails
- the possibility of excluding certain codes, in order to reduce spam
If you have other ideas/requests concerning the Gandi Mail service, please remember that we are listening to you

I purchased some domains from you in past. Does it mean that I will get 5 email accounts for each domain?
What can be expected in terms of reliability from GandiMail? Is there any redundancy built into the system? And is there a difference in the reliability of GandiMail and forwarded e-mail addresses (as I suppose it's much easier to implement an e-mail forwarder without a single point of failure than it is for an IMAP/POP server)?
Every services (pop/smtp/imap/mx) are load balanced with a set of servers. We try to have a full redundancy on every part of our infrastructure, including our network.
Great job guys! Looking forward to using it. Is it available through the reseller APIs?
Joe: no not yet via API but it's planned beg of next year (with a with labelled webmail too)
I feel horribly fucked up : all I see instead of an operative Gandi Mail is a damn screenshot. Can someone help?
Gigabrother: I note that one of your domains is still using our old DNS (full1.gandi.net and full2.gandi.net). You will need to update those to:
a.dns.gandi.net
b.dns.gandi.net
c.dns.gandi.net
...in order for your Gandi Mail to work (I therefore assume that is the one that is not working).
Don't forget that after that there will be a short propagation period, you will need to wait a bit before testing.
You write: "which allows you to create up to 1,000 emails" but I hope you mean: "which allows you to create up to 1,000 email addresses"
Is it possible to shut off anti-spam and anti-virus with Gandi mail? I would like to handle all the anti spam operations on my end- that way I never miss any mail.
Comments?
gergn: noted!
kevinv: this will be available in the coming weeks, when we will add the possibility of allowing you to manage the anti-spam of your e-mail address yourself.
Where is the pricing for additional disk space?
That would be FANTASTIC! This could be cool.
Hi Nick,
How does Gandi's Mail Pack work?
The rate is 1 euro excl. VAT per additional gigabyte per month (up to 50 GB) for 'A' rates, and if you are in "B" or higher rates, you only pay 0.50 euros (excl VAT) per GB (see our prices and rates here).
When you go to activate your Pack Mail, you select the number of GB that you want, and you are shown the cost of the pack that corresponds to your choice.
What is also quite interesting, is that you can add or remove space whenever you want! So if you order, say 30 GB and then after 2 weeks you realize that you only need 10, just change your limit, and your prepaid account will automatically be refunded the amount that you will not use!
Sounds good, but support for Opera on webmail is inexistant. It happens to work, pure luck, with the "simple (tout navigateur)" version but nothing works with any of the advanced Ajax version. It's a shame that no additional effort has been put into support for Opera.
This same simple version seems to wok on my mobile phone with OperaMini3.1 but is really not optmised for small screen display.
Sorry for complaining but so far Google for Domain works a lot better for me on all platforms.
Fantastic! Great work guys! Pleased it's finally here.
Small (but rather limiting) gripe with the webmail interface: The address book, when composing email, will only list up to 50 entries. There's no way of displaying the next 50. Could this be fixed? (and could the number to display per screen be customizable?).
...following from my previous post: it seems to be 50 in Firefox, and only 30 in IE.
Hi there,
Just was wondering when you think the Spam Protection level might be controllable .... once it is... I want to start switching over to Gandi Mail
So how do we get started using the e-mail accounts?
How do you add the "like alias" and why do you not allow the "catch all" function
Greetings:
It would be great to put a clear and easily accessible link on your main home page to your email service page.
At Gandi.net you really need a login button for the webmail. Its a really good webmailer I havt to say.
CU Time
Hi David and Time!
To log into your webmail, all you need to enter into your browser is:
mail.gandi.net
...and voilà! So I'm not so sure about the need for a button on the main page. We try and keep our website as clean as possible, thus avoiding the risk of becoming a place cluttered with buttons, logos, etc. The risk then becomes one of diluting the core function of Gandi's website which has always been to allow you to register and manage your domain names in as simple and transparent manner possible.
Just was wondering if the SPAM protection level is user-customizable yet? I want to be sure that NO spam gets blocked except by me manually. Is this available yet?
Yeah, when will control over the spam mechanism in Gandi mail be available? Was the sieve installation successful?
Is it possible for you guys to create a querystring variable on the webmail login page what would allow automatically filling in the domain name from an HTTP request? Right now, I set up a masked forward of mail.mydomain.com to mail.gandi.net/?Language=english. What I would like to do is point to something like mail.gandi.net/?Language=english&domain=mydomain.com as a convenience to users, so they don't have to type in the domain themselves. Thoughts?
