(reminder: Gandi is a registrar - not a registry)

The new "negotiated" ICANN contract that began in 2006 authorizes registries to raise their rates by 10% per year, and I will remind you that they have the possibility of doing so four times over a period of 6 years. This will take affect on October 15th, when the price that the registries charge Gandi for .com, .net, .org, .info, and .biz domains will increase by an average of 6%.

Gandi has decided (and the current value of the dollar has helped us in this), to not pass on this rate increase to you, our customers. This is true, no matter what rate group you are in. We have even decided to benefit from this, in response to the launching of our Gandi Mail service, to lower our A rates for incoming transfers on all TLDs beginning from the 15th to 19th of October.

Now here's the bad news. Since we cannot anticipate future changes in the value of the dollar, and knowing that the registries can still increase their rates by an additional 30% over the next three years, il will probably not be possible for Gandi to maintain its rates in 2009. If you are able to, and if you wish, we therefore recommend that you renew your domains for more than one year. For these gTLD (extensions), renewal is possible for up to a total of 10 years.
