Hosting maintenance

We are quickly nearing the end of the beta testing phase, and this means that we will soon be announcing the grand opening of our web hosting service!
This means that we are going to proceed with several updates of our infrastructure. These updates will unfortunately cause some minor disruptions (loss of connection, suspended operations, etc...) for all the Gandi servers.
These updates will occur at various times (day and night) and will last between 15 seconds and 60 minutes depending on the nature of the operation.
We cannot provide you with an exact schedule of when the operations will be performed, as you will surely not even notice the majority of them and also as we need to maintain some flexibility in their implementation.
The change in the server storage architecture, as well as other network improvements (which we will speak of soon) means that we need to perform this migration, and these frequent updates.
Of course, we will assure that these updates will be performed with as little interruption in service as possible, and let you know if any problem occurs.
Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
See you soon for the grand opening of Gandi Hosting! :D

Will Gandi Xen VPS allow any user client OS? I would be interested in using occationally Ubuntu and WinXP (I have licence).
Any estimate on when the hosting service will be available to new subscribers? It looks better than what I'm using now, and I need to deploy a new server relatively soon.
Greetings Ryan! Any estimate how much the vps prices would go up after the launch? I have a vps elsewhere, and its billing renewal is coming up. If i have some clarity about gandi's prices, i wont commit money there.
Hi Jl, at the moment you can only use one of the linux distributions to install on your server. We are looking at allowing other OS installs (e.g. windows, solaris, etc.), but this will not be in the initial launch.
@ SrWebLackey, we're in final testing now so we hope to have it out soon, but with a system like this we want to make sure it is very robust before we push it out. When we have more information and a final date, we'll let you know.
@ Jay, we're working on the final pricing now too. We've made changes to our infrastructure based on the learning from the Beta, so we've had to review things. However, this is a long term game for us, so we'll certainly be very competitive and what you'll get 'under the hood' will be very powerful.
Thanks, Joe
@ SrWebLackey, forgot to say, you can always request some shares now and we try to accommodate people where possible. Send us a mail to direction [at] gandi.net. Thanks, Joe
Are more shares/slices available than there were a few months back? I sent in a request to direction [at] gandi.net a few months back and never received a reply
Hi Donald, yes we have plenty of shares available. If you try again we may be able to accomodate you, but shouldn't be too long before you'll be able to add them again yourself. Thanks, Joe
