After a long guessing game, intense debates on probability, against the backdrop of thousands of domains created each day... we are proud to announce that it is finally today, March 9th 2010, when we have reached the millionth domain name registered with Gandi. In case you were wondering, the honor goes to universite-de-rennes-1.fr, registered by the University of Rennes in France initially for only 1 year, but as a special thank you for our 10th birthday we'll keep it going for them for another 10 years!!.

As well as the 55,000 free domain name promotion that some of you will have noticed over the past few days, we also have a special little prize for the single winner that correctly predicted (or was closest to) the exact date and time of our 1 millionth registration. We would like to thank everyone who participated in our little guessing game about the time of the millionth domain, but alas there can be only one winner of this 'trip of a lifetime'. As it turns out this will probably be a voyage to somewhere in the Indian Ocean (we are in the process of finalising the details with the winner!), but we'll keep you posted.
