US Datacenter: Open beta now in progress!

Works very well so far! I've duplicated the non-critical services from my current server in the Paris datacenter, and the new server seems to handle them just fine. Given the previously posted warning about migrating critical services during the beta, I'll wait on the "all clear" before moving over completely, but it works great at the moment.

Looks like Gandi has some dedicated paths between the two datacenters, because a traceroute between my two servers goes through only four intermediate routers, all owned by gandi.

Also, for anyone curious, I get about 90ms latency from the US west coast to my server in the US datacenter, compared with about 180ms to the Paris datacenter.

Yes, indeed, we have our own network infrastructure and direct diverse optical connections between the Paris and Baltimore datacenters.

The round-trip time that you notice from the west-coast (as opposed to latency, which is defined as the delay in one direction ) is as expected given that west coast to east coast is roughly the same distance as east coast to Paris... so latency of around 45ms (90ms RTT) -- of course double that (roughly) for west coast to Paris
