The summer is getting started in Australia, but the northern hemisphere is harvesting its grain and preparing for winter. Yes, fall is upon us, with its habitual frenzied activity, gearing up for another holiday season. Retailers are building sites, innovative new products are appearing, and everyone needs their site updated as soon as possible. That's where Gandi can help, with a slew of colorful new gTLDs to choose from, many of them sporting great promotional pricing. We are also helping you manage your hosting of all those web sites with an SSH keyring feature, and yes, we will be rolling out SHA2 SSL certificates (soon, we promise). The developers among you are happily exploring the new (really new, like alpha) Gandi CLI, an open source project that lets you control your domains and hosting with a few terse commands, just like in the movies. We also don't want you to miss a beat with all these new domains appearing, so we are sending you the updated new GTLD calendar, and updating you on the timeline for the much-anticipated .NYC general availability release (hint: it's really soon, get ready).
1. SHA2 SSL Certificates are coming
In its infinite (or almost) wisdom and infinite (or almost) influence, Google has been pushing for the transition to SHA2 for SSL certificates. What's the problem with SHA1, you ask? It's not sufficiently complex to keep up with advances in modern computing power, which is mainly what hackers need to break encryption. While as yet unbroken (as least publicly), SHA1 is clearly in the crosshairs, and once it's cracked all the web sites using it will be vulnerable, so there's a lot of pressure to get SHA2 certificates into place. The implementation is not going too smoothly, however. Mozilla reports problems with SHA2 and compatibility with older browsers is an issue, and so we at Gandi are working to make sure that when we roll out the ability to get a SHA2 certificate it will work in as many places for as many people as reasonably possible. Stay tuned! It won't be too long.
2. Gandi CLI makes a splash
CLIs are awesome and we have one now. http://cli.gandi.net Developers love to type. It's true! Sometimes we can't hear each other talk from all the clicking of keys in the Gandi office. In order to indulge them, and to save the pads of their fingers from getting worn off, we have released an open source project that lets you type a few terse lines into your terminal to register a domain, deploy a web site, link the domain to the web site with DNS, and so much more. Who needs a mouse?
3. SSH public key keyring now available for your hosted systems
You can now add public keys to your account and assign them to servers. Who's afraid of the cybersnooper? We are. If you aren't, you should be. When you access your hosted systems at Gandi over SSH, you want to be sure no one is listening, right? The current favorite way to encrypt terminal sessions is SSH, and the encryption is based on keys - little files that store the codes the algorithm uses... you get the idea. Well, now you can store the public part of those keys in a handy keyring in your very own Gandi account. Deploy them to the instances you run, and you can conveniently securely connect to them to your heart's content.

5. Gandi fight.CLUB
We aren't saying we are launching a new kind of soap, and we can neither confirm nor deny the occurrence of impromptu wrestling matches at our office. In fact, the first rule about anything like that would be that we can't talk about anything like that... But there is a promo on .CLUB, so start one of your own!
6. Gandi in Colors
If you like a little color in your world, you'll be pleased to know that this month, you can register .BLACK, .BLUE, .PINK and .RED at 50% off! The promo also applies to .MOBI, .KIM, .PRO, .SHIKSHA and .移动 (.MOBILE in Chinese). This promo is valid for one-year registrations, only during the month of October.
7. The coolest of the cool: .XYZ, .NYC, and .LINK
.XYZ domains are only $4 this month! This uber-useful, super-generic, anything-goes extension is quite popular (over 500,000 registered since launch). It's easy to remember and kinda catchy. Why not jazz up your content and push it on a new URL?
We were also excited to see the .NYC land rush end last Friday the 3rd of October. We can't wait for Golive on this Wednesday the 8th! If you live in New York, why not get your very own bit(s) of .NYC?
If you ever wanted to make a site that emphasizes links, why not use a .LINK domain? Now's your chance! You can get a .LINK domain for %50 off, now through November 30th.
